Does the ipad only work in hotspots or do you have connection everywhere? If not, is there a way I can purchase connection monthly, so I have internet access everywhere I go? What’s the point of the ipad if you can only get connection in wifi places ONLY?

It will connect to the internet wherever it is.

It will still function somewhat without an internet connection.

To get an internet connection anywhere, you need a movile wi-fi modem from Sprint or Verizon, or wait for the 3G version and try to use it with AT&T.

The iPad that’s out right now is WiFi only: you will need to be in a WiFi hotspot to get online, although there are lots of apps (and the book reader/iPod function) that will work fine without a connection.

If you want internet anywhere you need to either wait until the WiFi+3G model iPad comes out (later this month) or, if your current cell/data package supports it, you can tether your cell to your iPad over WiFi and get online anywhere you have a cell signal. If you get the 3G iPad, you can buy the month-to-month data plan from AT&T: $15/mo for limited data or $30/mo for unlimited. There is no contract, so you can pay month to month.
