Microsoft and Google both announce deal with Twitter
Its been some time since both Microsoft and Google have been trying to woo the internet sensation Twitter, finally both Microsoft Corp and Google Inc secured separate agreements to access real-time content from Web phenomenon Twitter. The nature of the exact deal which these companies secured and the financial dealings are not yet clear.
However it seems that Microsoft seems to have secured an upper hand for now. Microsoft has already unveiled its real-time Twitter search feature at a Web 2.0 Summit and it also plans to incorporate status updates from social network Facebook into Bing. Given that fact, that Microsoft already has a deal with Facebook, this should be easier for Microsoft than Google. The Twitter Search feature can be accessed at the following location bing.com/twitter, however the feature is not available across all regions. Google however has announced in its blog that it would take a few months to get the Twitter search working, thus given Microsoft a lead in the race.
Coming to the question of why the deal with Twitter is so important for both companies?
Twitter is one of the best source of finding out whats happening or what people are talking about, whats ruling peoples mind. Twitters “trending topic” gives a snapshot view of what the most talked about topic. For a long time now “Search” as we know it, is not real time, what we get to see on search result is dependent on how long ago the web pages were indexed by the search engine. Incorporating Twitters data would give both these companies access to what relevant at that time, information which would just not be one person’s opinion but a opinion formed from millions of people.
Now we need to wait and watch to see what innovations comes from both these giants, it would be really interesting to see what Google can come up with given the fact that this is the first time its facing actual competition in its home domain “Search” .
