It appears from the tech specs you need to use iTunes still for drag/drop of files…no direct drag/drop like a flash drive (unless u get this specific app that makes ur ipod/ipad/iphone a file storage device).
And for ebooks i think they will need to be officially bought ebooks through their iBook Store…otherwise u might need to get an app that reads that file format and put it on the iPad (using another app for file dropping).
You will be able to drag-and-drop files to your iPad, but only if you have the “Enable Disk Use” box checked in the Summary Tab when your iPad is connected to iTunes. These files that you drag and drop will not be accessible on your iPad however. To get songs, you have to put them in through iTunes, but you can drag-and-drop songs into iTunes
As far as eBooks, I think you will only be able to read ones from the iBookstore, mostly because Apple is always very picky about file formats when it comes to this type of stuff

well…. i wouldnt have said so, it doesnt run a fully fledge os…. also, doesnt have usb…. as far as i know it has special adaptors which will allow you to plug in usb… might be worth considering what most are saying, if you want to do more than surf the web buy a notebook instead
In order.
1.You have to use iTunes to add files to iPad, there is not Windows Explorer-esque drag and drop, but there is manual sync.
2. Just so long as your eBooks are in the ePub format, you should be able to read them on the iPad. If not, I’m sure you could find an App for it.
The ipad is just a cheap ripoff of the archos 9 which is a far better device. I find it insulting too that apple is the promoting device like its the first tablet ever created and it’s starting a new category of devices. I’m sure many will buy it though because of the hype apple has created surrounding it.
